From September 26-28, 2023 the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF) will be hosting its highly anticipated annual event, Meridian 2023, in the vibrant city of Madrid, Spain. As we gear up for the event, we’re delighted to re-introduce the Meridian Design Contest. The winner of this contest will secure an unforgettable trip to join us at Meridian 2023 in Madrid this September.
The challenge is to create a Meridian 2023 sticker design exclusively for conference attendees. Your design should capture the essence of the event's theme, "Unlocking Human Potential,” while reflecting SDF's core mission of advancing blockchain technology to create equitable access to the world’s financial systems.
Before we delve into the contest eligibility requirements, let's take a brief look back at last year's design contest and, notably, the winning design by community member Adam. His interpretation of the Meridian 2022 theme "The Urgency of Doing" impressed the SDF team, earning him a trip to Meridian in Rome, Italy.
His advice? Adam says, “The theme and location are very broad sources for inspiration, so do some background research about either to start. More importantly though, don’t hesitate to apply! Artists often don’t give themselves enough credit for their work, and your design might be exactly what they are looking for.”

Submissions for the contest will be open from August 10th, 2023, to August 30th, 2023. Detailed contest guidelines are outlined below:
Contest eligibility
To qualify for entry, participants must:
- At the time of entry, be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in the jurisdiction where you reside, whichever is older);
- Not be an individual on the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List or otherwise under sanction by OFAC (or an immediate family member (spouses, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, and “step” child, wherever they may live) of such an individual) or be employed by or affiliated with an entity sanctioned by OFAC;
- Not be a resident of Brazil, Quebec, Italy, or any country, state, province, or territory subject to comprehensive OFAC sanctions, including Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, or any Russian-controlled region of Ukraine; and
- Must have a passport valid until at least January 14, 2024, be able to obtain a visa to enter the Schengen Area (if necessary for your country of citizenship), and be otherwise eligible to enter Spain for purposes of attending Meridian.

Contest rules
- Step 1: Create Your Design: Inspired by the Meridian 2023 theme ‘Unlocking Human Potential,’ create a digital design that can be placed on a sticker. The design must (i) include the Meridian logo (versions: white, black); (ii) fit the sticker art imprint area: 3.5″w x 2″h; and (iii) must be shared in Encapsulated PostScript Format (EPS).
- Step 2: Explain Your Design: In 400-words or less, explain how your design is inspired by the Meridian 2023 theme ‘Unlocking Human Potential.’
- Step 3: Submission: Submit EPS file and the design explanation through this Typeform link: https://stellarform.typeform.com/to/AMcvuCXLand follow the instructions to submit your Submission, including by providing all requested information and by indicating Your agreement to these Official Rules. Your Submission must comply with the Submission Guidelines and Restrictions below.
Only individual submissions are eligible; collaborative or team entries will not be considered. Each eligible individual may submit only one entry.
How your design will be judged
The week after the contest closes, a panel of qualified judges will score each eligible submission based on the following “Judging Categories”:
- Quality of Design: Submission’s creativity, originality, and relevance to the Meridian theme, ‘Unlocking Human Potential’; and
- Explanation of Design: How well the Submission design is explained in 400 words or less, and relevance to the Meridian theme, ‘Unlocking Human Potential’.
Awards
The top three submissions with the highest scores will be awarded the following awards:
- The 1st Place winner will receive a trip to Meridian 2023 in Madrid, Spain for one (1) person from September 26-28, 2023. Prize includes hotel and airfare, provided that the value of the prize shall not exceed $2,500 (Approximate Retail Value “ARV”: $2,500).
- The 2nd Place Winner will receive a Stellar branded SWAG Box and a $200 Visa or Amazon gift card (ARV: $250).
- The 3rd Place Winner will receive a Stellar branded SWAG Box (ARV: $50).
Total ARV of all awards: $2,800. All monetary amounts listed in US Dollars.
