Join Rob Durscki, SDF's Senior Director, Business Development & Partnerships, for a panel on 'The next payments frontier: the future of digital currencies in Canada' at the 2021 Payments Canada Summit.

Money has been steadily evolving for centuries as a means of facilitating commerce. Over the past few years, the proliferation of smartphones, social media, and e-Commerce have given rise to an increasingly digital economy. In response, digital forms of currency (e.g., cryptocurrency, stablecoins, CBDC, etc.) have emerged, which introduce new opportunities and challenges for the financial ecosystem.

This panel will explore perspectives from the public and private sector on the future of money and payments in Canada. Panelists will share their perspectives and engage in a discussion on overlaps between the Canadian payments Modernization program and digital currencies, foundational requirements to enable digital currencies in Canada (e.g., Retail Payments Oversight Framework, Open Banking, etc.), value proposition and marketplace need for digital currencies, future-state user experiences and use cases for digital currencies, risk, security, and privacy considerations for digital currencies.
