2022 has not been kind to the world so far. The war between Ukraine and Russia forced millions of people to leave behind their homes and seek refuge in other countries. Supply chains were crippled even further, leading to shortages of critical supplies worldwide during a time when people are most vulnerable. Inflation is spiking, climate change escalating, and geopolitical tensions increasing, all amidst a persistent pandemic.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the work ahead. It is easy to feel all of this is simply too big to make a meaningful difference.

But change comes from action. Italian inventor and philosopher Leonardo da Vinci once said:

“I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.”

And do we shall.

Inspired by da Vinci’s call to action, and in the spirit of our host country of Italy for Meridian 2022, the theme for Stellar’s 4th annual conference is The Urgency of Doing. The issues of the world are only growing larger, and we must rise to the challenge by offering our own solutions – and then acting upon them.

Blockchain itself is not a panacea to the world’s ills. But it is technology that can help people send money cross-borders to their families back home. It is technology that can help displaced persons access much-needed funds wherever they are forced to flee. It is technology that can help people protect their wealth from devaluation in volatile economies. It is technology that anyone can harness right now, to bring real-world solutions to life, and scale to meet the need.

If anything, the recency of explosive events in crypto highlight why we need to act now – to implement regulation, design better policy and solutions, empower end-users, and scale the impact of those actions and do better for the world.

So join us this year in Rome as your first call to action. Developers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and more are all welcome to discuss how we act now to build the world we want to see and where this technology can change the trajectory. We will share more details about the program and opportunities for engagement in the coming months. Mark your calendars for October 11 to 13 and register NOW.
